Sand Painter Artist Joe Mangrum

I became aware of Joe Mangrum's Sand Paintings few years ago when living in downtown Chicago. A friend mentioned that the building across from mine was having a special art event. The flyer about it caught my attention- vivid, vibrant colored mandala like forms done with sand on the ground. So, I went to see it. His imagery, the colors used, and the material vibrated deep in me, and brought me in direct contact with other viewers as the work seemed to inspire us to converse with one another . He considers his sand paintings as "spontaneous creations" and "vibrant catalyst in social interactions". When asked about his paintings, he states "are visual rebellions of the urban grid" (jonmangrum.com)

Below is a link to a video that shows him in action. Enjoy it!

Sebastian, the Cat

"Sebastian & Trevor". Watercolor on Paper (c) 2015
This is my latest commissioned illustration on Sebastian, the cat and of my colleague Carol Hamilton. It was really fun to work on it. Thank you Carol!
